Matt Ashton
It is with great sadness we share the news that Matt Ashton the founder and owner of AMA Sports Photo Agency, and a founding member of the FPA has passed away following a 14 month battle with illness.
Matt was a wonderful football photographer who had such love for the game. He had incredible knowledge of the sport and loved nothing more than finding a story or a unique angle to cover a match.
He always seemed to be off on a stock shoot somewhere. And from shooting an unknown centre back in the lower leagues, to pre-season tours, to new signings or travelling to a far-flung country to get a set of players for his World Cup and Euros sets Matt was always thinking ahead.
Matt loved to travel particularly to Japan and USA, and from covering matches at his beloved Shrewsbury Town to covering World Cup and Champions League Finals around the world it all meant the same to Matt and he approached the job with the same enthusiasm.
Matt was a popular photographer in our community, always happy to be around like minded photographers, always full of stories and ideas, the photo rooms and pitchside positions won’t feel the same.
Football, photography and Simple Minds were his life and he will be greatly missed by all of us.
