L’Equipe the famous French newspaper and magazine that Richard Martin used to work for before he passed away, are launching an award this year in his name.
The FPA would like as many photographers as possible to enter as many of us remember and respected Richard.

2020/2021 PHOTO CONTEST RULES
PRIX L’EQUIPE / RICHARD MARTIN
ARTICLE 1: THE ORGANIZER
The company L’EQUIPE, located 40-42 quai du Point du Jour, 92250 Boulogne Billancourt (hereinafter the « Organizer »), organizes from February 1st, 2021 to September 30th, 2021, the international “Grand Prix” sports photo contest entitled « PRIX L’EQUIPE / RICHARD MARTIN » (hereinafter the « Contest »), whose Award ceremony will take place in November 2021.
ARTICLE 2: TERMS OF REGISTRATION
The Contest is free, registration will be processed on the Organizer’s platform accessible at the following address: https://blog.lequipe.fr/prix/
Participants may register until the 30th September of 2021, 23h59 (Paris Time, France), date on which registration will be closed.
The press card or proof of membership of a press agency or of a news organization will be required when to apply.
ARTICLE 3: TERMS OF PARTICIPATION
The Contest is open to professional photographers all over the world.
Only one participation per person is accepted, with the understanding that each participant may submit up to 3 (three) photographs in a single shipment.
The photography must represent a competitive sports action performed during an official competition and must have been taken between October 1st, 2020 and September 30th, 2021.
Technical Criteria
– Photography must be in .jpeg format with RGB color profile.
– The file size of each image should not exceed 5 MB
– The file size should be a maximum of 1920 pixels in length for the longest side (whether vertical or horizontal) at a resolution of 300 dpi.
Other Criteria
Photography should include :
– The date and location of the shooting,
– A legend,
– The name and surname of the author,
– The number of the press card or the name of the media organization it represents.
Digital manipulation of the photographs
It is possible to use digital manipulation (brightness, contrast, color, balance) to optimize the photographs as well as cropping and erasing the marks. However, it is forbidden to add or remove any important element of the composition that could distort the photographs. The jury will have the right to refuse any image that, according to its judgement, has been overly retouched compared to the original photography.
The “finalists” will be asked to send RAW files or originals for the final validation.
The participant will send his/her photograph(s) to the following email address: prixrichardmartin2021@lequipe.fr.
ARTICLE 4 – COMPOSITION OF THE JURY
First Jury
This jury is composed of 5 (five) members whose skills are compatible to participate in a selection of photos.
This jury will evaluate all the photos submitted and proceed to the pre-selection of 100 (one hundred) photographs (hereinafter the “Selected Photographs”).
Grand Jury
The 9 (nine) members of this jury are representative of the sectors of photography, press and culture:
– The president: Mr. Franck Seguin (2 votes)
– The general coordinator: Mr. François Gille (1 vote)
– One editorial representant (1 vote)
– A representant of the sports area (1 vote)
– One representant of the culture department and one representant of a French media (tv/ regional or national press/ Photographic Press) (2 votes)
– A representant of L’Equipe’s subscribers (1 vote)
– One representant of each partner (Canon & Radio France) (2 votes)
This jury will evaluate the Selected Photographs and will proceed to a first selection of 20 (twenty) photographs (hereinafter the “Nominated Photographs”), and will proceed to a second selection to retain the winning photography.
The photographs will be evaluated on their technical, artistic and journalistic value by the jury.
The decision of the Jury is definitive.
The Organizer will be responsible for renaming the photographs in an anonymous form (numbers) before their evaluation by the jury.
ARTICLE 5: THE PRIZE
The winner of the Contest will receive the “PRIX L’EQUIPE / RICHARD MARTIN” and Canon photo equipment worth 5000€ (five thousand euros).
The winning photographer may renounce the prize without being able to demand any other form of compensation. In this case, the prize will be reallocated according to the ranking established by the jury.
The result of the Contest will be made public the first week of November, 2021. The result will be published on the website of the Organizer as well as on its social networks.
The 20 (twenty) finalists will be informed by the Grand Jury by email, to send back the Nominated Photograph in High Definition.
The Award ceremony is scheduled between November 15th and 30th, 2021, at the headquarters of the Organizer. The prize must be collected by the winner during the award ceremony, or by another person delegated by him/her in writing.
ARTICLE 6 – COPYRIGHT
Each author is responsible for the content of the photographs.
Participants in the Contest must be the owner of the rights related to the photography and have the authorization of the person identifiable in the photography.
Each participant declares and guarantees the Organizer to the author of the submitted photography. The participant also acknowledges that he or she has obtained prior authorization for its publication.
The Nominated including winning photographs will be made available to the press institution with their copyright.
ARTICLE 7 – EXPLOITATION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS
By his/her registration to the Contest, the participant grants to the Organizer for 2 (two) years from November 1st, 2021, the rights to use the Nominated Photographs for promotional purposes related to the Contest.
This cession includes:
– The right of reproduction: the right to reproduce, without limitation of number, the photograph by any technical process and any known or future medium, including press and Internet media and, in particular by printing, by production of graphic, magnetic, videographic, digital or electronic media, online and offline media, for all types of publication such asn but not limited to newspapers, books, magazines, catalogs, mailing, editions and the creation of derivative products;
– The right of representation: the right to represent, make accessible, exhibit, distribute or communicate directly or indirectly to the public the photographs in any public and/or private place, by all known or future modes and processes, free or paying, as well as to translate the captions if necessary.
For illustration purposes, the winning photograph will be the subject of a double-page spread in the L’Equipe Magazine, the Nominated Photographs will be exhibited during the award ceremony, and will be the subject of an exhibition in the Organizer’s restaurant, as well as a publication on the Organizer’s website.
It is specified that the Nominated Photographs and the winning photograph will remain visible as on archive on the Organizer’s digital media for 5 (five) years from November 1, 2021.
ARTICLE 8 – RESPONSABILITIES
The Organizer cannot be held responsible for any problem related to the conduct of the Contest whether it is a human, computer or other error.
In case of force majeure, the Organizer reserves the right to modify these rules, to delay or cancel the Contest. The Organizer shall not be held liable for any such modifications.
ARTICLE 9 – OBLIGATIONS
Participation in the Contest required agreement of these rules by the participants.
Violation of these rules will result in the cancellation of the participation.
Any dispute relating to the interpretation and application of theses rules will be studied by the Organizer, in the manner in which the Contest was created.
ARTICLE 10 – PROCESSING OF PERSONNAL DATA
• PURPOSES AND METHODS OF PERSONAL DATA PROCESSING
The personal data (hereinafter « the Data ») that you provide us by participating in the Contest will be processed for the following purpose: to participate in the Contest.
• PERSONAL DATA COLLECTED
The Data that will be collected are the following:
– The name and surname of the photographers who submitted their photograph to the Jury,
– The photographer’s email address that will be visible when sending the photographs,
• CONSEQUENCES OF NOT PROVIDING DATA
Failure to provide the Data marked as mandatory will prevent you from participating in the Contest.
• DATA RECIPIENTS
The Data may be processed by the Organizer and companies belonging to the Amaury Group.
• DATA RETENTION
The processed Data will be kept for the duration of the Contest.
• DATA CONTROLLER AND DATA PROTECTION OFFICER
The person in charge of processing is the Organizer.
In accordance with articles 15 to 21 of the RGPD and with the law « Informatique et libertés » of January 6, 1978, modified by the Law n°2018-493 of June 20, 2018, the participant can exercise the following rights:
a. right of access, which means the right to obtain confirmation from the Organizer that your Data is or is not being processed and, when it is, access to said Data ;
b. right of rectification and right of erasure which means the right to obtain the rectification of inaccurate and/or incomplete Data, as well as the erasure of Data ;
c. right to limitation of the processing, which means the right to request suspension of the processing;
d. right to the portability of Data, which means the right to obtain Data in a structured, commonly used and readable format, as well as the right to transfer Data to other data controllers upon your written request only;
e. right of opposition, which means the right to object to the processing of the Data when the request is legitimate, including when the Data is processed for marketing or profiling purposes;
f. right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in case of unlawful processing of the Data.

ARTICLE 12 – DISPUTES
The present rules are subject to French law. To be taken into account, any disputes relating to the contest must be made by email to prixrichardmartin2021@lequipe.fr and no later than ninety (90) days after the deadline for participation in the Contest as indicated in these rules.
In the event of persistent disagreement on the application or interpretation of these rules, and in the absence of an amicable settlement, any dispute shall be submitted to the court having jurisdiction, which shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
