Action Images / Reuters photographer Carl Recine has scooped the first prize in the FPA Barclays sponsored SHOT OF THE CENTURY.
With nearly 300 images to choose from, the judges chose Carl’s image of Claudio Ranieri kissing the English Premier League trophy in May 2016, when Leicester City became the 24th club to become English football champions, and the sixth club to win the Premier League.
Carl, who began his football photography career photographing Stoke City for many years beat Andrew Yates who the judges awarded the second and third prize.
Yates came second with his stunning capture of Wayne Rooney scoring that famous overhead kick for Manchester United against rivals Manchester City, one of the most iconic of all Premier League goals on February 12, 2011.
Andrew Yates claimed the third prize with his picture of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson kissing the Premier League trophy in 2013.
The top three winning pictures along with the winners of the Highly Commended awards given to Jon Super and Michael Regan can be viewed on the Shot of the Century website – https://shotofthecentury.com/
The FPA committee wish to congratulate all the winners and thank the many football photographers who entered the competition.
Equally a huge thank you to Barclays and the judges
